Five Places to Visit in Rome

Rome or in Italian Roma is the capital city of Italy and also the largest city in this country. Rome is referred to as "The Eternal City" because of its rich history that spans more than two and a half thousand years, Rome was founded in 753 B.C and is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe. The city of Rome has a lot of interesting and beautiful attractions to offer to its visitors like wonderful palaces, millennium old churches and basilicas, grand romantic ruins, opulent monuments, ornate statues and graceful fountains, The city has a rich history that one would really enjoy to dive into.

1. The Pantheon - The Pantheon is a building in Rome and it is the best preserved ancient building in ancient Rome. It was commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus as a temple to all the gods of ancient Rome and was later rebuilt by the emperor Hadrian about 126 AD. A very magnificent building that you should see when you’re in Rome.

2. Colosseum - The Colosseum or Coliseum is the most famous ancient Rome monument, this is where the gladiators fought to the death and where program and games were held in the ancient times. A majestic building to look upon and wander around it.

3. St. Peter's Basilica – This church is very big and colossal in size and also beautifully made. It is a late Renaissance church that is located within Vatican City. A good place to visit to pay respects or just look and gaze upon this wonder of a church.

4. St. Peter’s Square – The square was completed in 1667 and it can hold 400,00 people at the same time the square is really magnificent and the plaza has the shape of an ellipse and on each side there is a curving pair of quadruple colonnades topped with statues of saints. A good place to take a walk and just enjoy this beautiful city.

5. Roman Forum - The Forum was the civic heart of the Republic of Rome and was once filled with temples and palaces. Today all that is left are these ruins. But still the place is really impressive if you think that most of the buildings were built between the dates 500 BC to 400 AD. Still a must see.
